 O say, what is that thing called light,

ওহে বলো, আলো নামের জিনিসটি কী,

Which I can ne'er enjoy?

যা আমি কখনও উপভোগ করতে পারি না?

What is the blessing of the sight?

দৃষ্টির আশির্বাদই বা কী?

O tell your poor blind boy!

ওহে বলো তোমার অন্ধ অসহায় বালককে!

You talk of wondrous things you see,

তুমি বিষ্ময়কর জিনিসের কথা বল, তুমি দ্যাখো

You say the sun shines bright;

তুমি বল সূর্য উজ্বল আলো দেয়

I feel him warm, but how can he

আমি তার তাপ অনুভব করি, কিন্তু সে কিভাবে পারে

Then make it day or night?

তারপর এটি দিন অথবা রাত তৈরী করে?

My day or night myself I make 

আমার দিন অথবা রাত আমি নিজেই তৈরী করি

Whene're I sleep or play;

যখনই আমি ঘুমায় অথবা খেলা করি

And could I ever keep awake

এবং আমি কখনও জেগে ধরে রাখতে পারি

With me twere always day.

দিনকে সবসময় আমার সাথে

With heavy sighs I often hear

আমি প্রায়ই গভীর দীর্ঘশ্বাসের সঙ্গে শুনি

You mourn my hapless woe;

তুমি আমার ব্যথায় ব্যথিত

But sure with patience I can bear

কিন্তু নিশ্চয় আমি ধৈর্য্যের সঙ্গে বইতে পারি

A loss I ne'er know.

আমি কখনও জানতে পারিনা ক্ষতি

Then Let not what cannot have

তাই দিওনা যা কখনো পারি না পেতে

My cheer of mind destroy;

ভেঙে যায় আমার প্রসন্ন হৃদয়

Whilst thus I sing, I am a king,

আমি যখন গায় গান, আমি একজন রাজা 

Although a poor blind boy.

The Blind Boy Poem Summary

In this poem the Poet tries to highlights the suffering and the expariences of life of the boy who is blind. A poor boy doesn't know the light and blesing of the sight never can enjoy. He can only feel the light, But he wonders how the sun makes day or night. The Blind boy makes it hisself by playing and sleeping. The others feel pity for him, He can bear his state with patience. Finally, he askes others not to destroy his joy by expressing sorrow. he may be blind, but he feels himself a king by not mourning on what he can never get.
